The Fila is an excellent guard dog who is also great with their children and family members and is very affectionate. Filas need a human bond and have a willingness to make their humans happy and for that reason they are easily trained. The Fila was bred to create a fearless dog of enormous size, strength and stamina. They have a great scent tracking ability, and have been used to hunt big game in their native land, such as wild boar and jaguar. They are also used in working cattle and of course as guard dogs. The Fila possesses one of the most unique personality traits in the canine world, traditionally known as Ojeriza, most often described as( distrust of strangers.)
This is a serious guard dog, bonding with only its human family and no one else. The Fila breed standard calls for colors such as fawn black and brindle, loose skin, and a coat which is short and smooth to the touch. Males can vary from 27 to 29.5 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh a minimum of 100 pounds. Typical male Filas weigh around 130-150 pounds. The life Span of the Fila is about 10 -12 years . Females on the other hand must be at least 24 inches at the shoulder and the maximum height is 27.5 inches. Minimum weight is 90 pounds, with most females weighing in around 115-130 pounds and a life span of about 10 -12 years.
